Crashed Car? Questions and Concerns Answered.

Before you take your car to the auto body collision repair shop recommended by an insurance company, we encourage you to do some investigating to ensure you feel comfortable with the repair shop. After all, it’s your car, SUV or truck and the shop that repairs your vehicle should be your choice. The right to choose your own autobody shop is protected by Oregon law.

My top three things to know before you choose a shop to fix your wrecked car are:

1.  Determine for yourself if the shop is reputable?

  • Have you heard good things about them from friends, family, your mechanic or online reviews?
  • Check their record with the Better Business Bureau ( BBB ), are they a BBB member and do they have an A+ BBB rating?
  • Ask if their craftspeople (technicians) are up-to-date on their auto body, paint and welding training and certifications through I-CAR and ASE?
  • Do they have an on-line presence that instills confidence in their abilities?

2. Do they put you at-ease when you talk with them?

  • Call the shop you’re considering, and ask them to address some concerns you have. If you’re not comfortable with their responses, move on.
  • If possible, visit the shop personally. If you want to see the shop facility where the work is done, just ask, they should be happy to show you around.

3. Do they have an on-site owner operator?

  • I know a lot of shops, and I know that when an owner or family member is involved and present, the overall satisfaction with the repair experience increases.
